N2 - Aging as a global trend affecting tourism should be better addressed in tourism research. Perceived constraint and negotiation are important constructs that influence senior tourists’ subjective wellbeing while travelling. However, relevant findings in outbound tourism context are unclear. This study conducted qualitative in-depth interviews with Chinese outbound senior tourists, identifying three perceived constraints (language barriers, lack of suitable travel agencies and services, and no standard pre-travel health examination) and three negotiation strategies (seeking family support, better travel arrangements, and physical/health preparation). This study provides initial empirical evidence to understand senior tourists’ perceived constraints and negotiation strategies in outbound travel.
