Qualification network - Work Enabling Systems & Technologies

Industry 4.0, also known as the fourth industrial revolution, is a buzzword that refers to the digital networking of all objects, people and companies involved in the value chain. The aim is to merge modern information and communication technology with industrial production. The expected effects of this development include
individualized mass production (batch size 1), the networking of all partners involved along the value chain as well as machine-to-machine communication in the Internet of Things. These trends will have a significant impact on industry in the coming decades.

As a result, many companies will be confronted with numerous new issues, such as the networking of production machines, which were not necessary for their previous activities. They lack the necessary knowledge to profitably introduce the associated new technologies in the company and benefit from the new opportunities. The aim of this qualification network is therefore to provide the company partners involved
the necessary know-how to evaluate and implement the advantages of Industry 4.0 in their own companies. This will enable companies from Tyrol, Vorarlberg and Salzburg to secure a head start in international competition by introducing the new technologies in their own companies in good time.

The Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences, the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences and the University of Innsbruck with their institutes of mechatronics and computer science have joined forces to impart the necessary knowledge to the participating company partners and to put it into practice. Together, the university partners cover a broad range of topics, including all aspects of
aspects of Industry 4.0, from business processes to the Internet of Things. The knowledge transfer is based on a three-stage process. First, basic courses are held to create as uniform a knowledge base as possible for all project partners involved. This is followed by more advanced courses that convey the results of current research issues relating to Industry 4.0. The final step is practical implementation by means of specific projects in the companies, which are supported by the scientific partners.
