Description

Many buildings lack a current, holistic view of energy use and CO₂ emissions. Data are often limited to annual bills, strongly influenced by weather, system settings, and user behavior, and locked in silos—hindering the detection of misconfiguration, inefficient operation, or defects, and impeding progress toward climate neutrality. This project addresses that gap while supporting EPBD implementation by establishing emissions-focused monitoring that transparently reveals savings potentials. A key principle is to leverage existing data—from building services (BMS/controls), the ZEUS energy accounting system, and the Energy Performance Certificate—avoiding costly additional metering. The innovation lies in a data-mesh approach that validates and organizes heterogeneous sources into a coherent data space forming the basis for a digital twin. The twin integrates environmental conditions, user behavior, and building characteristics to enable near-real-time analysis of emissions and performance. On top of this, the system generates automated recommendations for energy savings and system optimization. Dashboards engage owners, facility managers, and occupants, enhancing transparency and accelerating the emissions-reduction process toward climate-neutral buildings.

Key findings
