Building block for AI-based optimizations in industrial manufacturing

Project: Funded research

Project Details

Description

For small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in production poses a particular challenge. The cross-border research project KI-Net aims to facilitate the use of artificial intelligence in production and maintenance processes for SMEs.

The goal of KI-Net is to develop a cross-border competence network that investigates and researches fundamental building blocks for AI-based optimization. This should make it easier for SMEs to access the targeted use of artificial intelligence in production and maintenance processes. The following questions should be answered:

In which areas of industrial manufacturing can AI be beneficially applied? How can AI-based manufacturing systems be built? What technologies, methods, and processes are necessary for this?

The project aims to clearly identify which AI building blocks/methods are the most suitable for specific industrial manufacturing tasks. The AI building blocks/methods include:

Digital twins, robotics
AI-supported modeling, systems engineering processes
Knowledge representation
Data analysis as well as optimization and learning procedures
Application guide for the use of AI in manufacturing

The project participants pool the necessary expertise to advance reindustrialization in Europe, which is considered beneficial, based on the latest technologies, primarily focusing on the utilization of AI in industrial production and maintenance processes by SMEs.
