Description
Forest-based industries can become an engine for a sustainable and competitive bioeconomy in the Danube area.
However, they are affected by climate change, competition for wood resources, changing consumer demands and declining employment levels.
FORESDA’s main objective is to transform traditional forest-based industrial areas into sustainable and innovative manufacturing areas by:
• Generating cross-sectoral transnational innovations, primarily in the areas energy efficiency, smart and sustainable construction and furniture, and innovative bio-based products and materials.
Output: Collaborative Networks and Innovation Projects.
• Implementing cross-sectoral pilot innovation infrastructures.
Output: innovation platforms (demo centers, living labs…)
• Building up the necessary supporting capacities (e.g. clusters).
Output: methods and tools, extended support portfolio.
FORESDA’s main result is increased effectiveness of collaborative research and innovation activities in the forest-based sector, leading to the emergence of new cross-sectoral value chains.
