Organisation profile

Description

The transition from a fossil-based, linear economic system to a circular society that lives within planetary boundaries and utilises renewable energies and raw materials is one of the major transformation processes of the 21st century. The circular economy, bioeconomy and renewable energy systems are key tools for this change.

The practice-oriented research focus at the Department Design and Green Engineering develops solutions for these challenges and contributes to the sustainable transformation of society. In addition to developing innovative materials, circular products and climate-friendly technologies, the aim is to promote the transfer of knowledge between science and industry and to train specialists for future challenges.

The applied research focusses on materials, processes and technologies:

  • Designing bio-based and recyclable products
  • Constructing energy-efficient buildings
  • Developing flexible energy systems
  • Using regional resources intelligently
