Advanced Heat Load Calculation Methods for Energy-Efficient Residential Buildings

Activity: Talk or presentation › Oral presentation

Description

The heat source, supply and distribution systems of buildings are dimensioned by calculating the static peak heat load, which can be carried out using various standards. The application determines the method used, which utilises different values and factors. The HL-(N)ZEB (Heat load calculation for nearly zero-energy buildings) project analyses these calculation methods according to the standard and compares them with results from dynamic building simulations and on-site monitoring data from single-family houses. The deviations between the different
calculation methods are to be identified in order to formulate proposals for adapting the standardised heat load calculations. Particularly in nearly zero energy buildings (NZEB and ZEB - Zero Energy Buildings) with optimised building envelopes and technology, the actual heat load differs significantly from the calculated heat load. Demonstration projects that have already been completed prove that even systems with only 50 % of the standardised calculated heat load according to ÖNORM H 7500 can provide the required heat output. This makes it possible to significantly reduce the investment and operating costs for heating and cooling, which is critical in the process of designing and calculating ground-coupled sources.
The monitoring data analysed in this project originates from residential buildings with brine/water heat pumps. The vast majority of these heat pump installations are equipped with integrated ring trench collectors. This advanced ground source based collector enables geothermal supply with reasonable costs even on smaller plots of land. The project team, consisting of the Zukunftsagentur Bau, Salzburg University of Applied Sciences and RGK e.U., is also taking active part in the soil2heat network.
